Hotel Tidioute Investigation 10-17-09

The Oil Region Paranormal Investigation Team held an investigation at the historic Hotel Tidioute on 10-17-09. The building is located at 128 Main Street Tidioute PA.

Brief History

Hotel Tidioute was built in 1862 as the National Hotel. It was later called the Bucklin Hotel then the Caldin Hotel.
The West side of the building where the bar now is located once was the hotel lobby, appointed in Victorian Style.
A ballroom once occupied the third floor. When the Prohibition Era ended, the ballroom was restored and the Caldin Hotel subsequently was operated by a succession of proprietors and is being restored by its present owner.

The Reports

Our team interviewed the current owner and staff of the Hotel Tidioute and they reported the following paranormal happenings.
The basement:
It was reported that an old employee went to the basement to change the CO2 tanks that pump the soda to the bar area. No one is sure of what exactly happened to the employee because he refused to tell anyone what happened to him in the basement. All that was said is that this employee came out of the basement in a frantic state and from that point on refused to step foot in the basement again.
The first floor:
A report of fast moving shadow masses were reported to dart across the ceiling throughout the first floor.
Reports from staff of an apparition of a civil war soldier standing in the hallway that leads to the game room.
The owner and staff both report that there was an elderly gentleman that lived on the second floor that died in the apartment. Both claim that on occasion they will hear the footsteps of someone shuffling down the back stairwell and up to the bar.
The owner also reports that his dog refuses to enter the game room area. He stated that his dog will stand in the hall that leads back to the game room and stare as though he is watching something or someone in the area but it is just the owner and the dog in the building.
The second floor:
On the second floor there were reports of doors opening and closing as well as the sounds of footsteps being heard. Another report from the second floor is in the gathering room. The owner reports that this area is now used for storage and that the door is always locked with a padlock and that he is the only one with a key. He stated that one night while he was leaving he saw the lights of this room come on as he was about to get in to his truck. He told us that he went back in to the building and found that the padlock was still on the door but not locked. He told us that he had to manually shut the lights off that were on an old style push button on off switch.
The third floor:
It was reported to us that a current staff member used to occupy one of the rooms on the third floor. She reported to us that the room was once occupied by a female named Emma that used to work as a call girl when the hotel first opened in the late 1800’s. She further reported that Emma fell in love with a gentleman that was called to war and never returned to her. Emma was said to have taken her own life in the room once she received word that her gentleman caller had been killed in war.
Reports from the third floor ranged from seeing female apparitions, hearing voices, hearing period music, smell of odd perfume, footsteps and doors opening and closing.

The Investigation

For this investigation we had six investigators present and used the following equipment.
DVR system with six cameras recording.
2 Mini DV camcorders that were mobile with investigators
3 Mini DV camcorders that were stationary
1 Ultraviolet camcorder that was stationary
EMF meters
K2 Meters
Digital thermometers
Digital cameras
Digital Voice recorders
Other equipment included flashlights, walkies and other safety equipment.

Captured DATA

Approx 48 hrs of video captured on the DVR system
4 hours of video and audio captured on the mobile Mini DV’s
21 hours of video and audio captured on the stationary Mini DV’s
3 hours of video captured on the Ultraviolet camcorder
846 photos were taken. This includes regular flash, I.R. and U.V. photos
19 hours of audio was captured on the digital voice recorders.

Personal Experiences

Steve reported that he was going up the stairs to the third floor and heard the disembodied voice of a female. He was not sure of what was being said but stated that it was definitely female.
Ryan reports that while watching the monitors on the second floor that he heard footsteps in the hallway area.
Mark and other investigators reported going in to the room of the elderly gentleman that passed in the hotel. They stated that during the investigation time that they noticed a dresser drawer that was open almost to the point of falling out and commented on a set of false teeth that were in the drawer. The team left the area and all state that they never touched the drawer but when they returned a little over an hour later the drawer with the false teeth in it had closed.

Captured Evidence

In all our team captured no evidence on the DVR system, any of the Mini DV’s or other camcorder devices. We also did not capture any photographs of paranormal activity. A lot of dust orbs, but lets face facts, dust is dust .. not a ghost.

We did however capture a few anomalies on our voice recorders. As always these are very low volume, almost hushed whispers. We recommend using headphones to see if you can also hear the EVPs.

The first EVP was captured on the third floor. Investigators were laughing due to one of our new members getting stuck in a couch. Then at 17 secs an odd voice is heard. To us it seems that the voice is saying “hang on” or something to that effect.
