Lona’s Restaurant / Celtic Café Investigation 1-17-10

The Oil Region Paranormal Investigation Team conducted an investigation at Lona’s Resturant / Celtic Café on 1-17-10. The business is located at 1213 Liberty Street in Franklin Pennsylvania.

The Reports

We interviewed Lona who currently runs the restaurant and bar and she had a wide array of paranormal activity to report that she had witnessed first hand and also been told by other employee’s.
The activity ranged from beer taps opening themselves up, certain beer bottles that would always move to the front of the shelves and sometimes fall to the ground. Other reports included an oven that would turn itself on in the kitchen area, an uneasy feeling in the men’s restroom, a paper towel dispenser that would self activate and run several feet of paper towels when no one was in the building, wine glasses that would stand on end when stored on the shelves and even a wine glass that fell from mid-air and smashed on the bar. The last event with the wine glass falling was caught on “in house security camera’s”.
(ORPIT currently has the security footage but is unable to add it to the site due to the video format. We will work on this problem and post the footage as soon as possible)

The Investigation

For the investigation we had eight members present and used the following equipment.
Infrared DVR system with four camera’s recording.
Two stationary MiniDV camcorders.
Two MiniDV camcorders that were mobile w/ the investigators
K2 Meters.
EMF detectors
Digital thermometers.
Digital audio recorders.
Digital cameras.
Other equipment included flashlights, walkies and other safety equipment.

Captured data

Throughout the entire investigation we collected the following data for review.
19 ½ hours of audio
A little over 10 hours of audio/video from the MiniDV camcorders
Investigators took 523 photos of the area.
Unfortunately for this investigation the DVR system malfunctioned and only 2 hrs and 45 min of video was captured with the system.

Personal experiences

Throughout this investigation no investigators reported any personal experiences.

Captured Evidence

During the investigation no evidence was gathered on any of the data that was recorded by investigators.

Our conclusions

Investigators were able to pose possible explanations for the following claims made by the client. In no way is our group stating this is what the client or witnesses observed but more of a possible reason for some of the happenings.
First members of the group were able to trigger the motion sensor activated paper towel dispenser in the mens restroom by simply keying up our walkies that we use to communicate with each other. Press the button to talk and the machine would activate. With the county court house across the street and constant patrols in the area by local police we feel that their higher powered radios could set the sensors off from outside the building as our low powered walkies did.
Lona also showed investigators photos of the wine glasses on the shelves that were set at an angle. We were able to reproduce a similar (not exact) replica of this event by tilting a wine glass on the shelf and support that glass with another one just placed to the rear. Again our photos were similar but not exact.
The last claim that we feel we were able to come up with a reasonable explanation for was the particular brand of beer bottle set on a shelf for display moving foreword without anyone touching it.
While waiting to do the reveal investigators were sitting at the bar and noticed that the bottles on the top shelf would move slightly. We were able to determine this do the contents of the bottles moving back and fourth without much movement on the floor. And when the bartender would ring up a bill the contents of the beer bottles would move quite a bit. So our thought is that if patrons were dancing or being lively the bottles could move with the increased vibrations caused by the patrons. We still don’t have an explanation why it is only the one certain type of beer bottle that moves foreword.

As for the “in house security camera” footage. We have no reasonable explanation for how this could have occurred. We inspected the area and there is no shelving, ridges or storage areas where a wine glass could have been placed and just fell over falling to the bar. It appears as though the glass falls straight down, not thrown from off to the side or lobbed in from an out of frame area.

Our final conclusion is that during the time we investigated this business that there was no paranormal activity that occurred.

We have already spoken to Lona and another investigation is to be slated in the near future.
